Justification by Faith #3
Acts 13:14-43
Text vs. 38,39 - “Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is
preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all
things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.”
Justification is through the redemptive work of Christ.
Romans 3:24
“Being justified freely by his grace
through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:”
The word “redemption” means to deliver by paying
a price in three ways.
To buy in the market. Man is viewed as a slave sold under sin.
Romans 7:14
“For we know that the
law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.”
Romans 5:12
“Wherefore, as by one man sin
entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have
sinned”
Man is under the sentence of death.
Ezekiel 18:4
“Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of
the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
John 3:18-19
“He
that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because
he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation,
that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds
were evil.”
Romans 6:23a
“For the wages of sin is death; . . .”
But, praise God, man is subject to
redemption by the purchase price of the blood of the Redeemer.
I Corinthians 6:20
“For ye are bought with
a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
I Peter 1:18-19
“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold,
from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood
of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”
Revelations 5:9
“And they sung a new song,
saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and
hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;”
To buy out of the market. This means to buy and then to remove from further sale.
Galatians 3:13
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written,
Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:”
Galatians 4:5
“To redeem them that were under the law,
that we might receive the adoption of sons.”
Romans 5:1
“Therefore being justified by faith, we
have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”
Romans 8:1
“There is therefore now no
condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the
Spirit.”
This speaks of the finality of the work of redemption. I John 5:10-13...
Redemption also means to loose or set free. This sets the prisoner free.
Praise God I’m free,
I’ve been set free by the grace of God.
No more the paths of sin I’ve trod,
Heavens gates I’ll enter in.
The blood has cleansed every sinful stain,
Bless the living God, I’m free again.
On the sinful path below,
All in sorrow, grief and woe,
But I’ve left the shifting sand,
Upon the rock, solid rock, I’ll take my stand.
Soon the pearly gates I’ll see.
Soon I’ll live eternally.
Friends and loved ones wait for me,
I’ll sail up high through the sky because I’m free.
Now how about this.
Romans 8:2
“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death.”
John 8:32
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall
make you free.”
John 8:36
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
Christ paid the price, the Holy Spirit makes deliverance.
I hear the Saviour say, “Thy strength indeed is small,
Child of weakness, watch and pray, Find in Me thine all in all.
Lord, now indeed I find Thy pow’r and Thine alone,
Can change the leper’s spots And melt the heart of stone.
For nothing good have I Whereby Thy grace to claim;
I’ll wash my garments white In the blood of Calv’ry’s Lamb.
And when, before the throne, I stand in Him complete,
Jesus died my soul to save, My lips shall still repeat.
Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain, He wash’d it white as snow.
