CHRISTIAN BROTHERHOOD # 3Acts 15:36-41 - “And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our
brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do. And
Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark. But Paul thought not
good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to
the work. And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from
the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus; And Paul chose Silas, and departed,
being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God. And he went through Syria Christian responsibilities and responsibilities to God. The gift of service. It begins with salvation. Gen. 4:3-5 - “And in process of time it came to pass,
that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. And Abel, he also
brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel
and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very
wroth, and his countenance fell.” The gift of self. Rom. 12:1,2 - “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” We are not our own. Paul said it best in Gal. 2:20 - “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” Responsibilities to our fellowman. Matt. 5:23,24 - “Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.” To the brethren. Have not wrath. Rom. 12:17-19 - “Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” Have not a sharp tongue. Eph. 4:29 - “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Be not negative. Eph. 4:29 - “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Not necessarily that of swearing, but rather unwholesome conversation. Our conversation should not dwell on the gossip of this world. Be positive. Our speech should be that that edifies. - To build up the hearer in faith and holiness. Our speech should be speech that administers Grace. Have a life that is filled with love for the brethren. I John 4:20 - “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?” To our enemies. We are not to hate our enemies. We are to banish resentful feelings. Luke 23:34 -“Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do...” Russell Stolp Psalm 37:4 "Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."
