ABUNDANT LIFE THROUGH HOLY SPIRIT LIVING
THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT # 4
I Corinthians 6:19-20
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which
ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your
body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
This Scripture is addressed to the Saints of God. The Holy Spirit is a Spirit, and He desires a temple, a
body, in which He may dwell, and through which He may work. The Body of the Christian is the temple,
the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.
Now let us consider the Temple refined and enshrined.
The Temple refined.
Through the fall and sin, man has sold himself to Satan. Christ died to redeem man, and before the temple
(our bodies) can be refined, man needs to be redeemed. In regeneration, man becomes a son of God
and a joint heir with Jesus Christ. Then comes the experience of sanctification, the setting apart, the
dedication, the cleansing, the making pure and holy. When we are cleansed we are made uncommon to
the world. This is why we read in
II Corinthians 6:14
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:
for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath
light with darkness?”
Paul prayed that the Thessalonians would be sanctified wholly, that is, through
and through. This cleansing affects the heart and gives us a pure heart, which makes itself seen through
our hands, feet, eyes, tongue, ears, our desires, ambitions and plans. Oh how we need to employ our
bodies as vessels, meet for the Master’s use.
The Temple enshrined.
Enshrined means to be adorned and beautified. The Temple in the Old Testament was beautified with
wood, brass, silver, gold, and fine twined linens. It was adorned with the colors of red, white, blue, and
purple.
Thus the following.
Wood - stands for the flesh and humanity,
Brass - that sin has been judged,
Silver -
for redemption,
Gold - the majestic emblem of holiness and Godliness,
Fine twined linen - stands for
righteousness,
Red – atonement,
White - purity and holiness,
Purple - royalty, dignity, and kingliness,
Blue - heavenliness.
What a picture of the child of God as he gives himself in his life and body to Christ.
