ABUNDANT LIFE THROUGH HOLY SPIRIT LIVING
THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT # 1
I Corinthians 6:19-20
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which
ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your
body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
This Scripture is addressed to the Saints of God. The Holy Spirit is a Spirit, and He desires a temple, a body, in
which He may dwell, and through which He may work. The Body of the Christian is the temple, the dwelling
place of the Holy Spirit.
A temple is a place to worship, a place to meet God and where God meets you. Now there are seven things about
this body I want you to see.
The Temple designed.
The Temple defined.
The Temple confined.
The Temple consigned.
The Temple refined.
The Temple enshrined.
The Temple ensigned.
The Temple designed.
When God made man, He was concerned how He would make him. The Triune God, through the Trinity, said in
Genesis 1:26 - “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:” Then the Lord God took
dust, even the very substance of the earth, and made a body for man. God made the body of man with great and
wonderful capacities and possibilities. Among which, this body has the capacity and room for the soul and the
spirit and also for God.
Adam was formed with a human and visible likeness of the divine and invisible God. It was the Psalmist who
wrote - “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
The Temple defined.
A temple is a house of God, even a holy place. It is a meeting place of God and man. It also is a place of worship.
Our bodies are God given and should be given back to God. We live, labor, suffer, and die in this body.
We will be resurrected and go to heaven, or to hell, in the body in which we live. Oh yes, to the child of God, this
old body will put on immortality and this corruption will put on incorruption. Yes, a new body, but a body that we
will live in forever just the same.
To the child of God then, we must realize that our hands, feet, tongue, heart, our entire being is the temple of the
Holy Ghost. If we defile the body and allow sin to dwell in us, God will destroy us.
